Job Description:
The Nurse Manager embodies both the nurse and executive roles
and is responsible for the safety and quality of the Residential
Treatment Center (RTC), staffing, employee satisfaction, budgeting,
and patient satisfaction.
Job Purpose: Provide general nursing care to patients in a mental
health treatment center. Create an atmosphere of healing, hope and
comfort. Care for up to 12 patients in a residential, home-like
setting who are recovering from a mental health crisis or substance
use disorder. Provide care, treatment and support to patients and
assist in providing an environment of healing. Administer
medications, lead life skills group sessions, listen to patients
and document on patients medical and emotional status. Ensure the
environment is safe and patients feel secure. Oversee all nursing
functions and manage a team of support staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for the oversight of all nursing, medication, and
patient care assistance systems and processes.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for oversight of all
patients.
Provides oversight of nursing, psychiatric, and personal care to
patients.
Elicits important information concerning the patient's
progress.
Oversight of Nursing staff's monitoring of patients' physical and
emotional well-being and report unusual behavior or physical
ailments to staff.
Observe and influence patients' behavior.
Oversight of data regarding patient needs.
Documents nursing observations.
Reports symptoms, reactions and progress of patient to the Nurse
Practitioner and/or Program Director.
Collaborate with and assist Program Director, Nurse Practitioner
and on-duty nurse working with patients in order to treat,
rehabilitate, and return patients to the community.
Responsible for ordering required patient labs.
Daily medication audits and documentation.
Responsible for daily chart audits to ensure the required
documentation, ordered labs, ordered medications, dispensed
medications, and UA's are completed within the required time frames
for current and new admits.
Responsible for auditing discharge patient charts to ensure
required documentation is completed within the required time
frame.
Pursues proper chain of command to attain a satisfactory
solution.
Initiates changes to improve patient care; discusses changes with
Licensed Prescriber when appropriate.
Utilizes educational opportunities within the facility and other
avenues to maintain clinical expertise to promote personal growth
and development.
Responsible for knowledge of legal aspects of nursing.
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Program Director
and Licensed Prescriber(s).
Required to be available on call 24 hours/day to respond to nurse
on duty.
Responsible to ensure compliance with Title 22 and Tile 9
regulations.
Responsible for staffing, labor hours management, replacement of
staffing (including overtime) scheduling, and employee
management.
Responsible for all new hire training, orientation, and education
of nursing staff.
Responsible for nursing staff competencies, ongoing education, and
annual training.
Oversight of Kipu training and Hatch compliance.
Flexible schedule required to ensure proper oversight and
supervision of staff across all shifts and ability to work
uncovered shifts.

Experience in mental health or a related field preferred.
Must be currently registered with California Board of Vocational
Nursing
Current BLS Certification
Previous experience as an LVN or RN
Previous experience in a supervisory role
Must present a professional demeanor
Must have good interpersonal skills
Must maintain a calm and reasonable attitude during crisis and
conflict
Must demonstrate initiative and good judgment
Must respond appropriately to routine and emergency situations
Must be able to set and revise priorities based on changes in the
situation
Furthers his/her education by attending staff meetings, continuing
education classes and reading of current professional material
Computer literacy in electronic medical records, Microsoft Office,
and email required.
Obtain a health clearance form from a medical provider.
Obtain a negative tuberculosis screening
Valid Driver's License.
Criminal Record Clearance required.
A desire to assist those with mental health concerns.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, manage patient care, and maintain company
standards.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
with staff, supervisors, and medical and mental health
professionals.
Ability to positively interact and develop rapport with patients
and their families.
Ability to maintain a culture of care that is conducive for maximum
benefit of both patients and staff.
Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues, and
ability to incorporate the needs of gender and culturally diverse
groups into practice setting.
